Monthly Roundup: March 2026
What I Did
- Started a course.
- Specs broke after about two months of use. Ugh.
What I Played

Balatro: Poker roguelike game in which you go through six rounds, with each round having three different challenges. I know what poker terms are now, but I still can't play poker, and that's fine. Like a gacha game, buy and draw special cards to improve your scores and odds of winning. My favourite Joker so far is Misprint, and I've only gotten as far as the fourth round. I'd like to know how I'm supposed to get 32K points in one round. My limit seems to be in the twenty thousands.
Dorfromantik

Duck Detective: The Secret of Salami: Short but funny and interesting mystery about salami smuggling in an office. The mysteries are easy to solve thanks to the game's mechanics and the hints are plentiful. [8/10, definitely replaying someday.]
Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping: sequel to the above. Equally interesting.
What I Listened To
iPlan, Dlala Thukzin
- I'm finally getting into gqom and 3-step and there was no better place to start than Dlala Thukzin's iPlan. This song would not let me go. Thank you to the person who posted about Dlala so much that I had to check him out for myself.
Beat A B!tch Up, Alemeda
- Black girls doing rock and alt music? Yes. See also; Rico Nasty, Clayocksu (Down especially) and Nova Twins.
U, underscores
- Much hyped hyperpop album that I didn't enjoy.
Selection, Wande Coal
- I wanted to listen to Nigerian music instead of Western pop for a change, but listening to the new music, everything has an amapiano beat, so I went to Wande Coal. If I really wanted amapiano the Nigerian way, I'd listen to Niniola. Everybody else is butchering the genre and I'm tired of log drums. I complained in the days of Terry G, but can someone bring Terry G back?
What I Watched
The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency: Atrocious accents, don't remember BK being in the books, but it's a good watch. Wonder what Motswana think of it.
Bottomline: Rewatched this comedy webseries by NdaniTV about a media agency and the characters that work in it. It's only 10 episodes long and I want a second season, though that's unlikely.
Interesting Links
Murdoku: another browser game in which you solve murders, Sudoku-style. The web version isn't fully developed (it's still in alpha), but you can download pdfs of the puzzles and annotate them with PDF viewers.
tropes.fyi helps to name (and shame) AI writing. Ironic because the site also has something to help you avoid the common signs of AI writing if you do want to use AI to generate some writing for you, with tropes.md.
We don't know until the end, and it's never the end: I don't agree; I will judge that book by its content. This doesn't mean that I might never revisit it. Maybe one day I will, and it will make sense. Or I'll remember why I disliked it in the first place. Who knows?
Ness Labs has a comprehensive list of their best articles for the productivity-inclined.
An old discovery but a good one, Updoot is for the Reddit users. View your saved posts and comments by subreddit, or search for saved posts. It's so helpful because I use RedReader for Reddit on my phone, and it doesn't show saved comments, only posts.
Other Stuff I'd Like to Share
Masobe now has an app where you can pay monthly to read Nigerian books for as low as ₦19991 without resorting to sailing the high seas. I might not ever use it, but hopefully it gets those who can't afford the high prices of physical books reading more.
LearnCryptic is a site that you can use to learn how to play cryptic crosswords. Daily cryptics are provided and there are plenty of hints for those who need them (like me).

OneLook Thesaurus is for the writers. Describe the feeling/action/noun you require a word for and get a list of words that may match your intentions. Highly recommend.
Keep Android Open: If I wanted to be locked in to one ecosystem of software and not be able to install apps from unofficial stores easily, I'd just get an iPhone.
Why do people do this? Just say 2000 naira. What's the extra 1 naira going to do for me except contribute to my bank charges? Hmmmm.↩
