Monthly Roundup: February 2026
What I Did
- Nothing but work and write.
- Tried to find a way to watch the Chinese Werewolf social deduction game show Panda Kill with subtitles. Still no luck so far. It's on YouTube, but without subtitles and a grasp of Mandarin, what can one do?

What I Read

- Nettle & Bone, T. Kingfisher
- A fairytale-like story that I enjoyed but had some issues with.
- The protagonist annoyed me with how much she mentioned 'not being like a princess'. We can see it, thank you.
- The stakes seemed to fizzle out after the party was assembled, and the completion of the impossible quests the witch gave the main character disappointed me. What is a fairytale without three impossible quests completed?
- While I saw the romance coming I hoped the author would subvert expectations. She did not.
- Will I read more T. Kingfisher? Yes (I still haven't finished Clockwork Boys and I want to read Digger). Will I re-read Nettle & Bone? I doubt it.
What I Listened To
- ULTRALIGHT, Sute Iwar
- I know of Tay Iwar (from his feature on Cruel Santino's Settle Down), but I didn't know he has a brother who also is a musician. Got curious and decided to listen. I love this album for its theme and sticking to that through the whole thing. It reminds me of Cruel Santino's Subaru Boys: FINAL HEAVEN album in that manner.
- Standouts: SPACE COWBOY, MEDITATE
- In a previous roundup I complained about the interludes on SDC's Afrika Magic, which is a contrast with this album. I love the interludes on this album, especially because they remind me of the ones on Odunsi (the Engine)'s rare, and because they don't feel out of place.
What I Watched

The Lying Game: The books this show was adapted from was written by Sara Shepard of Pretty Little Liars fame, so you know what to expect watching this. The adaptation isn't 1 : 1, as the protagonist's twin who she impersonates doesn't die in the show. This is a rewatch, since I watched it as a teen, and I'll give it an extra point for the opening song: Butterfly Boucher's Gun For A Tongue.1
ISSAKABA: Haven't finished it yet, but this Nollywood classic would be a great movie to remake (that is, if they don't mess it up).
LOVE AT THE GATE: I don't usually watch YouTube Nollywood, but someone recommended this and I decided to give it a try. Didn't regret this because it's pure comedy. I could nitpick if I wanted (wouldn't be hard to do), but I admit I'm biased enough to overlook any mistakes.

the default dungeon is colonial. I wonder why. It might also be because RPGs have been male-dominated, and men apparently like (the idea of) war and fighting for whatever reason.
Other Stuff I'd Like to Share
Found Ninite years ago and haven't used it, but it's interesting.
Timezones Nigeria showcases lo-fi music from Nigeria. I like the website but I wonder if it looks equally nice on a mobile device.
The official title on streaming platforms is Gun For a Tounge. Deliberate or error?↩
